Reason, Respect, Responsibility...
To Reason To Respect To Take Responsibility is simple but not necessarily easy.
Thanks for visiting ReasonRespectResponsibility. If all goes well, you will soon be able to purchase and read my book, by the same name. But until I get that arranged, here is a sneak preview of what you will get in the book.

As self-described recovering victim of the United States public “education”, and “eventual” graduate of the University of Iowa, (I say ‘Eventual’ since I ‘Eventually’ graduated,) whether by accident of by will, I have learned or discovered a few things that I want to share with you here.

All things in all of our lives can be categorized in the manner I am about to describe. And sometimes these different categories share the elements being categorized, and sometimes they don’t. And whether we realize it or not, we all go through this process every day. As I write this, using words like “I” and “My” to describe and define my situation, using myself as the “example”, so it will transfer to you and be applied to you when you read it.

All things in my life can be placed into 2 separate categories.
ONE- Things I am ABLE to control, or have AUTHORITY to control.
TWO- Things I am NOT able to control or do NOT have authority to control.
The assignment is to PROPERLY define, separate, and categorize all things in my life in this format.

And every day, with regard to the category of things I am ABLE to control, I have a choice to make. I can CHOOSE TO control those things I am ABLE to control or have AUTHORITY to control.
OR I can choose NOT to control those things I am able to control or have AUTHORITY to control.
If and ONLY IF I am able to do this little exercise above successfully, then at the very least, I’ll be able to maintain my sanity. Or I may even be able to do other things like make money, or learn more than I already know.
Notice how I mentioned nothing about those things that I am NOT able to, or do NOT have authority to control. If I am not able to control those things, why should I waste one half of one tenth of one second thinking about them? I, being a person who will not live forever, do not have that kind of time to waste.

I, like every single human being who is, will be, or was ever on this planet throughout the whole of human history, have, had and will have a common human characteristic. We all have within us, forces or tendencies, that are in conflict. The two forces or tendencies I am talking about are ONE, the tendency of all human beings to give in to our natural human weaknesses (a one-step operation). And TWO the ability for all human beings to resist these natural human weaknesses, and actively develop and use our natural human strengths (a two-step operation).

And like the example above, we have choices to make everyday with regard to natural human weaknesses within us, and the natural human strengths within us. Everyday I am able to in the one-step operation either CHOOSE to “give into” or “surrender to” the natural human weaknesses within me. Or I am able, in the two-step operation, to CHOOSE to resist these “Forces of Weakness” within me (first step), and actively develop and exercise my “Natural Human Strengths”(second step). For example, I might CHOOSE to sleep in late, or CHOOSE to get drunk everyday, or CHOOSE to eat more than I really need, or CHOOSE to put off my responsibilities until “another day”. OR I am able to CHOOSE to get up early and go to work or school. I am able to CHOOSE to actively monitor what and how much I eat and drink. I am able to CHOOSE to do my duties, and take care of my responsibilities today, allowing me to fill my time tomorrow with something else.

Finally there is one related element regarding our “natural human weaknesses” and “natural human strengths”. Although it’s not a perfect correlation, there is a detectable defining line connecting OUR CHOICE to either give into our “Natural Human Weaknesses”, or OUR CHOICE to resist our “Natural Human Weaknesses” and ACTIVELY develop our “Natural Human Strengths”, and RESPECT. If I choose to resist or fight my “natural human weaknesses” and actively develop my “Natural Human Strengths”, this may (although not always) earn me respect from those who know me. On the other hand, always surrendering to, or giving into my “Natural Human Weaknesses” will hardly (if ever) earn me respect from people who know me.

For your own information, or your next “lecture committee” discussion, I am a 5-year Marine Corps veteran and hold a BA degree in economics from the University of Iowa, (and will charge $500/hour plus travel expenses for lectures to schools and company “bored” meetings.) So, if you are looking to hire someone for a job that requires counting, you will find competence in a University of Iowa graduate like myself.
